The January transfer window is typically a time of feverish speculation and potential big-money moves. Several high-profile players are being connected to transfers out of their current teams. We examine some of the key names that are poised to be on the move this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite Ghana's inability to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, this has left the player in contention, reports suggest a major transfer is close. The 25-year-old has a contract with a £65 million release clause applicable for a brief window in early January. Recent reports point to Manchester City look to have won the race for his signature. Other interested parties such as Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have turned their attention to other targets, potentially opening the door for clubs such as Manchester United or Liverpool to make a last-minute move.

Marc Guéhi

The English defender has continued to impress for Palace this season a summer move to Liverpool falling through. With his contract due to expire in the summer, this represents the London club's last chance to secure a transfer fee for their skipper. Numerous top sides, including City and several European giants including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly be interested. Yet, a winter departure remains difficult, particularly given the coach's dependence on the defender.

B. Johnson

This Wales winger has found starting minutes limited at Spurs this campaign. Although finishing as the club's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, he has begun only a handful of league games. It is understood the London club is willing to consider a sale for the correct price, believed to be in the around £40 million. The Cherries are currently leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an interest.

R. Neves

This Portuguese midfielder could be poised for a return to the Premier League following a period in Saudi Arabia. Now only twenty-eight, and with his agreement expiring in the summer, he is a possible bargain. Teams like Manchester United and Liverpool are connected to the player. Additionally, there are suggestions from Spanish media that he is prepared to accept a reduced salary for a switch to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

The experienced Germany goalkeeper finds himself as the third option at Barcelona following the coach Flick. After lost his place and had an operation, a winter exit looks highly likely. Villa were initially mentioned as a possible destination, but that option currently seems unlikely. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be expressing interest in the keeper.

I. Toney

This proven England striker has continued scoring frequently in the Middle East. Coming back to the Premier League could boost his dwindling hopes of making the England squad. But, arranging a deal presents significant hurdles. Al-Ahli are reluctant to part with him, and his reported huge weekly wages render any move difficult. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton have all been mentioned as admirers.

Harvey Elliott

Despite starring and winning the best player award at the U21 Euros last summer, this talented midfielder has struggled for game time on loan at Aston Villa. Unai Emery has stated the loan move won't become permanent. Due to specific rules about representing multiple teams in a campaign, a return to Liverpool before next summer appears to be the only viable outcome.

Kenan Yildiz

The exciting Turkish forward is in excellent form for the Italian giants this season. As his current deal running down, a host of English sides – including Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the developments. The Turin club are desperate to tie down the youngster to a lengthy contract but face a battle to keep one of Europe's brightest prospects.

K. Smit

The highly-touted Netherlands midfielder has drawn comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. Following impressing at the U19 Euros, he has broken into the AZ Alkmaar side. The teenager is heavily expected to make a major transfer in January. Newcastle United reportedly are frontrunners, but could face stiff rivalry from Real Madrid for a signing valued at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
