Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered numerous other vandalized cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the community for information.
A senior representative stated the attack left him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
